Bangladesh clean sweep against New Zealand

Dhaka: After clinching a historic ODI series win against New Zealand, Bangladesh rubbed in more salt into the Kiwi wound when they completed a whitewash of the visiting team. This is the first time ever that Bangladesh has blanked out a top cricket team in a series.

This is the second time that Bangladesh has managed a clean sweep in an ODI series. The last time the side was able to do the same was in 2009, when they beat a second grade West Indies side on their Caribbean tour.

Powered by a three-wicket haul by seamer Rubel Hossain and neat efforts from the spin department, Bangladesh defended a meagre target of 175 runs and dismissed New Zealand three runs short of the target. Grant Elliot's 59, Daniel Vettori's 43 and a late-order heroics from Kyle Mills failed to take the Kiwis to victory.

A completely out-of-form New Zealand side has just failed to produce a single match-winner who would have taken them across the finishing line in the series. In the five-match series, New Zealand has succumbed to three close defeats, with one match being abandoned without a ball being bowled.
